The First Leg

Before we can officially make our trip on Jan 2nd, we had to move all of our stuff from Bloomington to our parents' houses. Now, Jason and I live in seperate apartments which means we have A LOT of stuff. We decided to take an entire weekend to move and it was brutal! First, we drove up to Pine City, MN (PC) to drop off a load of my stuff and pick up my stepdad's truck and trailer. Then we drove back down to Bloomington, loaded up Jason's big stuff, and drove 2.5 hours down to La Crosse, WI (Lax).

This is where the trouble started.

It had snowed the night before so the roads were less than stellar. We were driving way under the speed limit, but the bridges we crossed were extremely icy and tended to pull the truck and trailer to one side or the other. As we crossed a small bridge the rig lost traction and started to pull to one side. As we slid onto the blacktop, we regained traction and were pulled into the other lane. The trailer swung out from behind us and pulled us back across the highway.

I knew we were about to flip.

I was holding onto the ceiling of the truck just repeating "Ok, ok, ok," over and over again. I knew better than to yell because Jason was already stressed out. He swung the truck back and forth until the trailer finally lined up behind us again. We pulled over to the side of the road and just looked at each other in awe. He exclaimed, "I can't believe I just saved that!" I couldn't believe it either. I honestly thought we were going over. He got out and check on everything and I stayed in the front trying not to vomit as my adrenaline faded away. We made the rest of the trip slowly, but safely, and arrived in Lax for a break of pizza with his parents.

We drove back up to Bloomington, packed up my big stuff and decided to take the rest of the night off. We drove the hour up to PC the next morning with no problems and unloaded all of my belongings into my parents' pole shed.

Phew! That part was over! Packing and hauling is the WORST part of moving. Now all we are taking down to Virginia are clothes and a few of our favorite amenities. Our apartment is fully furnished but very small, so we have to travel lightly. Plus, we're only taking one car.

Oh, did I mention that the car is Jason's and is a manual. We've been having lots of "fun" these past few weeks as he's been teaching me to drive stick. :)

Haulin' away!

Virginia is for...exhaustion
